South Africa 1928 penny

Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72228

This specimen was lot 72228 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $216. The catalog description^[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. Penny, 1928. London Mint. George V. NGC MS-63 Brown. Mostly even and silky brown surfaces with speckles of original red scattered about. A nice example to add to your copper collection." The South African pennies of George V run 1923-36 with this subtype issued 1926-30. It is reasonably common considering the moderate mintage.
