This specimen was lot 33797 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V gold Sovereign 1928-SA MS65+ NGC, Pretoria mint. Satiny golden luster crisps the devices and endows this gold beauty with an attraction seldom encountered in this sovereign series.." The Pretoria mint operated as a branch of the Royal mint, striking George V sovereigns 1923-32.
Recorded mintage: 18,235,000, a very common date.
Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW.
