This specimen was lot 71489 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Penny, 1928. London Mint. PCGS MS-66 Brown Gold Shield. Pop: 1, none graded finer by PCGS in Brown. Flashy mint red can still be seen throughout most of the obverse with tantalizing cartwheel luster." Pennies were struck for George V throughout his reign (1911-36) but several subtypes exist as mint officials struggled to improve striking characteristics. This, the final head, was used 1928-36.
