Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73683

This specimen was lot 73683 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 1/3 Taler, 1787-IEC. Dresden Mint. Friedrich August III. PCGS AU-58. Essentially without wear, with some noted striking weakness upon the obverse and an olive-gray tone spread throughout." This type was struck 1780-90 and is fairly common.
