Künker sale 264, lot 3812

This specimen was lot 3812 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,617 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Friedrich August III. (I.), 1763-1806-1827. Dukat 1770, Dresden. GOLD. Seltener Jahrgang. Prachtexemplar. Feine Goldpatina, fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus III, 1763-1827, ducat of 1770, Dresden mint. Rare date, proof example, fine gold color, choice uncirculated.)"

A type issued 1769-78 from the early part of Friedrich August III's long reign.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.49 g.
