This specimen was lot 553 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 10,000 CHF (about US$12,530 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Sachsen, Herzogtum, ab 1547 Kurfürstentum | Albertiner, Friedrich August III. (I.), 1763-1827. 10 Taler 1778 EDC, Dresden. Prachtexemplar mit feiner Patina. Fast FDC. Winzige Kratzer. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus III, 1763-1827, ten thalers of 1778, Dresden mint. Cabinet piece with lovely toning, About uncirculated, Tiny scratches.)"

This type of 1778-79 shows the elector with a uniformed bust; a bare bust type was struck 1779-90; both are scarce to rare. This example realized five times its catalog value. The double august d'or was struck to the same standard as the Prussian double friedrichs d'or.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.36 g, 0.902 fine gold, this specimen 13.33 g.
