Saxony 1778-EDC thaler Dav-2690
This specimen was lot 4476 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €400 (about US$550 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Friedrich August III. (I.), 1763-1806-1827. Konv.-Taler 1778, Dresden. Feine Patina, vorzüglich. (electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus III, 1763-1807, convention thaler of 1778, Dresden mint. Fine patina, extremely fine.)"
This type is listed in the SCWC for 1769-79 and is common in grades up to extremely fine. It was struck simultaneously with a mining thaler (Dav-2691). Friedrich August III did not pursue the Polish adventures of his ancestors and prosperity began to return to Saxony.
