This specimen was lot 733 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $5,581.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1780. NGC MS-61. Friedrich Wilhelm III (1763-1827). VERY RARE. Sharply struck with dark, uneven toning. From the Rockaway Collection." The regular issue thaler (Dav-2695) is common but this one year type is rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver.
