Sincona sale 18, lot 1526

This specimen was lot 1526 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 28,000 (about US$36,894 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Doppeltaler 1780. Dresden Zur Belohnung des Fleisses. Äusserst selten, nur 20 Exemplare geprägt. Fast FDC. (Electorate of Saxony, double thaler of 1780, Dresden mint, award for diligence. Extremely rare, about 20 minted, choice extremely fine.)"

This issue is joined by another rare double thaler of 1780 (Dav-2694).

Specification: 56.1 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 55.64 g.
