This specimen was lot 31535 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxony. Friedrich August III gold Ducat 1768-EDC MS62 NGC, Dresden mint. Ernst Dietrich Croll as mintmaster. A scarce type, this example marked by glimmering golden luster in the fields, taking on an alluring flowing effect on the reverse. The second-finest example seen by NGC." This type was struck 1764-68 for the young elector. The regent Xaver also had some ducats struck with his portrait (Fr-2870).
