Saxony 1768-EDC thaler Dav-2678
This specimen was lot 1007 in Jean Elsen sale 165 (Brussels, June 2026), where it sold for €340 (about US$468 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, SAXE, Xavier, régent (1763-1768), AR Taler, 1768 EDC, Dresde. D/ B. cuirassé à d. R/ Écu couronné. Nettoyé. Très Beau à Superbe. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, regent Xaver, 1763-68, silver thaler of 1768, Dresden mint. Obverse: armored bust right; reverse: crowned arms. Cleaned, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
After the immense mintages of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, when Saxony was the leading producer of silver thalers in Europe, production dwindled to a few scarce commemorative issues in the eighteenth century. This type is listed for 1764-68 and is somewhat available. Other thalers for 1768 include Dav-2682 and Dav-2683.
