This specimen was lot 56565 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $200. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 2 Groschen, 1738. Friedrich August III. PCGS AU-58. Commemorating the marriage of Friedrich's daughter Maria Amalia with King Charles of Naples & Sicily (future King Charles III of Spain)." The electors of Saxony were Catholic rulers of a Lutheran state. This wedding commemorative was struck 1738 only. It accompanied a ducat (Fr-2852a) and a gulden (KM 897). Two groschen made one twelfth of a thaler. The current king of Spain, Felipe VI, is descended from this marriage.
