Saxony 1737-FWoF thaler Dav-2665
This specimen was lot 3794 in Künker Auction 426 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,150 (about US$1,629 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Friedrich August II., 1733-1763. Reichstaler 1737, Dresden. Hübsche Patina, kl. Kratzer, sehr schön. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus II, 1733-63, thaler of 1737, Dresden mint. Handsome patina, hairlines, very fine.)"
Most Saxon thalers of the period 1660-1760 are scarce. The elector's attempt to conquer and rule Poland as well as Saxony impoverished both countries. This type was issued every year 1734-56 but it is not common.
