This specimen was lot 40558 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1726-IGS. Dresden Mint. NGC AU-50. Friedrich August I (1694-1733). Toned with underlying luster." This type was issued steadily 1709-33 but is still scarce, like most Saxon thalers of the period 1660-1760. The elector's attempt to conquer and rule Poland as well as Saxony impoverished both countries.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
