Saxony SB120-22640r.jpg

This specimen was lot 22640 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 1/6 Taler, 1719-IGS. Dresden Mint. Friedrich August I. PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield. A boldly struck and pleasantly toned coin with great eye appeal." The exhaustion of the fighting in Poland rendered the Saxon state prostrate, and most of the thalers of this period are rare. Prosperity (and high mintages) would not return until the reign of Friedrich August III (1763-1806). This type was struck 1710-33. It is readily available in low grade.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM 790.
