Saxony 1727-IGS 1/6 thaler KM-856
This specimen was lot 1489 in Goldberg Sale 146 (Los Angeles, July 2025), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxony. 1/6 Taler (Death Groschen), 1727-IGS. Friedrich August I, 1694-1727. Cyprus tree flanked by two mounts of hearts. Reverse: Legend in twelve lines. Struck on the occasion of the death of his wife Christiane Eberhardine of Brandenburg - Bayreuth. Only one graded at PCGS, MS-62. Our coin is mostly untoned. PCGS graded About Uncirculated Detail (Cleaned). The Augustana Collection." The regular 1/12 thaler (KM 790) was struck 1710-33, including 1727. This design was also used for a double groschen (KM 855), 1/3 thaler (KM 857), 2/3 thaler (KM 858) and thaler (KM 859).
