This specimen was lot 1457 in Goldberg Sale 146 (Los Angeles, July 2025), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxony. 1/4 Taler, 1611. Dresden. Christian II, Johann Georg and August. On the death of Christian II. Loop. PCGS graded Very Fine Detail (Mounted). The Augustana Collection." Christian II, an alcoholic and mama's boy, died at the age of 27 after overexerting himself at a tournament. This quarter thaler marks his death.
