This specimen was lot 3736 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $205.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Albertine Line. Taler, 1611. Christian II, Johann Georg I & August (1591-1611). NGC VF Details--Mount Removed. Struck to commemorate the death of Christian II. Once cleaned surfaces, now retoning with some blue highlights. From the Rockaway Collection." Christian II succeeded to the electorate in 1591, aged eight. Dominated by his mother, he lapsed into alcoholism and died of a heart attack, aged 27. This commemorative is rare.
