This specimen was lot 70160 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2020), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 1/2 Taler, 1610-HvR. Dresden Mint. Christian II. NGC AU-53. Lightly circulated yet retaining excellent detail in the portraits on both sides." Christian II succeeded to the electorate in 1591, aged eight. Dominated by his mother, he lapsed into alcoholism and died of a heart attack, aged 27. This type was struck 1601-11. Another type (KM 22) was struck using a thick flan and quarter thaler dies.
