This specimen was lot 1437 in Goldberg Sale 146 (Los Angeles, July 2025), where it sold for $72. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxony. 1/2 Spitz-groschen (14)75. Leipzig. Ernst, Albrecht, and Wilhelm, 1464-1484. Shield within trilobe with legend around. Reverse: Shield within inner circle with legend around. PCGS graded EF-40. The Augustana Collection." This type and numerous other halbe schwertgroschen of the period 1475-82 are listed in the SCWC under Saxe-Wittenberg, an old splinter of the Saxon duchies which was abolished in 1500. Since most of the coinage were joint issues anyway, we present them under plain Saxony. We summarize the catalog listings for this denomination as follows:

  • KM MB143: Zwickau mint, dated (14)78 with trefoil mintmark.
  • KM MB150: Zwickau and Schneeberg mints, dated (14)82 with trefoil mintmark, Meissen/Landsberg arms on reverse.
  • KM MB151: Zwickau and Schneeberg mints, ND, struck 1842-85.
  • KM MB152: Freiberg mint, dated (14)82.
