This specimen was lot 1440 in Goldberg Sale 146 (Los Angeles, July 2025), where it sold for $36. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxony. 1/2 Sword Groschen, ND. Annaberg. Friedrich III, Johann, and Albrecht, 1488-1500. Pop 1; The only one graded at PCGS. Mostly untoned. PCGS graded VF-30. The Augustana Collection." We don't think this is a product of the Annaberg mint as no half groschen are listed therefrom. The Freiberg mint is noted for a rosette mintmark (Nicholas Hausmann) for 1490-1500. We summarize the catalog listings for this denomination as follows:

  • KM MB1: Freiberg mint, dated (14)82.
  • KM MB9: Schneeberg mint, trefoil mintmark, dated (14)82, (14)88, (14)94, (14)95.
  • KM MB10: Schneeberg mint, trefoil mintmark, ND, struck 1488-90.
  • KM MB14: Zwickau mint, dated (14)90 or (14)91.
  • KM MB15: Zwickau mint, mule of MB14 and Saxe-Wittenberg KM MB150.
  • KM MB16: Zwickau mint, dated (14)90.
  • KM MB17: Freiberg mint, rosette mintmark, dated (14)90, (14)92, (14)95, (14)98 and ND.
  • KM MB18: Freiberg mint, rosette mintmark, dated (14)90 or (14)99. A mule of MB17 and MB9.
  • KM MB20: Freiberg mint, rosette mintmark, dated (14)92 or (14)95. A mule of MB17 and MB9.
  • KM MB21: Zwickau and Schneeberg mints, ND, struck 1490-93, some known dated (14)92.
  • KM MB30: Schneeberg mint, trefoil mintmark, dated (14)85.
  • KM MB38: Schneeberg mint, star mintmark, ND, struck 1497-99.
  • KM MB121: Leipzig mint, cross/crescent mintmark, ND, struck 1518-19.
  • KM MB161: Zwickau mint, "X" mintmark, ND, struck 1530-33.

Except for MB121 and KM161, all were struck in the name of Frederick III, John I and Albert III.
