CNG Triton XXIX, lot 6530

This specimen was lot 6530 in CNG Triton XXIX (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $134.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY, Sachsen (Duchy & Electorate). Friedrich III der Weise (the Wise), with Johann and Albrecht. 1486-1525. AR Halb Schwertgroschen. Zwickau or Schneeberg mint; mm: trefoil. Dated 1492. Coat-of-arms with polylobe / Coat-of-arms with polylobe. Mottled iridescent toning, deposits. VF. From the Robert Levinson Collection." This style, with the date on reverse, was struck 1492 and undated with a trefoil mintmark. We summarize the catalog listings for this denomination as follows:

  • KM MB38: Schneeberg mint, star mintmark, ND, struck 1497-99.
  • KM MB121: Leipzig mint, cross/crescent mintmark, ND, struck 1518-19.
  • KM MB161: Zwickau mint, "X" mintmark, ND, struck 1530-33.

Except for MB121 and KM161, all were struck in the name of Frederick III, John I and Albert III.
