This specimen was part of lot 3241 in Künker sale 384 (Osnabrück, March 2023), which sold for €360 (about US$465 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1772-1803. Ku.-2 Pfennig Ku.-2 Pfennig 1777, 1781, 1782, 1786, 1791 (2x), 1793, 1794, 1795, 1796, 1797, 1798, 1799, 1800, 1801, 1802. Probszt 2562-2577; Zöttl 3359-3375 (Type 1 - Type 7). 16 Stück., Meist sehr schön und besser. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1772-1803, copper tuppence of 1777-1802. Sixteen pieces, mostly very fine and better.)"
The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck 1777, 1781-82. It was the first issue of this denomination in the 18th century and superseded the last half kreuzer struck in 1760. In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to Austria in 1814.
