This specimen was lot 3181 in Künker sale 384 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €550 (about US$711 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1772-1803. 2 Dukaten 1782, auf das 1.200jährige Stiftsjubiläum. GOLD. RR Fassungsspuren, bearbeitet, sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Gerhard Hirsch Nachf. 119, München 1980, Nr. 39. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Hieronymus von Colloredo, 1772-1803, double ducat, on the 1200th anniversary of the bishopric. Very rare, removed from jewelry, tooled, very fine.)"

The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck in 1782 only for Hieronymus von Colloredo on the 1200th anniversary of the bishopric. It is the last double ducat from this state. In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to Austria in 1814.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 7.0 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 6,83 g.
