Salzburg 1712 thaler Dav-1238
This specimen was lot 30296 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Salzburg. Taler, 1712. Franz Anton. PCGS MS-62. Brilliant and attractive, the bright white surfaces of the present specimen bear just a touch of peripheral toning of an amber color. Only delicately marked, and entirely attractive, this beauty is certain to be much contested for, as examples tend not to be preserved as nicely as this one." This type, featuring patron saint St. Rupert, was struck 1712-18 and 1722. Another thaler, with the bust of the archbishop (Dav-1237), was also struck in 1712.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
