Künker Auction 426, lot 3271

This specimen was lot 3271 in Künker Auction 426 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €370 (about US$524 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · DIE GEISTLICHKEIT IN DEN HABSBURGISCHEN ERBLANDEN, SALZBURG, ERZBISTUM, Franz Anton von Harrach, 1709-1727. Reichstaler 1711. Sehr schön. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Francis Anton of Harrach, 1709-27, thaler of 1711. Very fine.)"

The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. In the seventeenth century it was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. This type was struck 1710-20 and is common. Some dates lack the star below the bust as seen here. Another thaler struck in 1711 (Dav-1236) featured St. Rupert on the obverse.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 28.9 g, 0.875 fine silver, this specimen 28,89 g.

Catalog reference: KM 254, Dav-1237; Zöttl 2404.
