This specimen was lot 2217 in Goldberg's NY International sale 59 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "Rouble 1896 АГ. Authenticated and graded by NGC MS 62 (#958816-018). Choice uncirculated." In 1886, the ruble was reduced to 20 grams after having been fixed at 20.73 grams since 1798. This type was struck 1894-1915. A variety exists for 1896 (KM Y59.2) with a star added to the rim; these were struck at Paris.
