This specimen was lot 40765 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $4,759. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1894-AT. PCGS MS-62. Low Mintage 1894 Ruble RARE. Mintage of only 3,007 pieces. Light attractive toning, sharply struck." This date is a rare date of a type struck 1886-94. In 1886, the ruble was reduced to 20 grams after having been fixed at 20.73 grams since 1798.
