This specimen was lot 74546 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 1/2 Kopek, 1894-CNB. St. Petersburg Mint. Alexander III. NGC PROOF-58. Quite a RARE offering in proof, this issue from the final year in the reign of Alexander III exhibits just the slightest degree of handling, accounting for the grade, with even brown surfaces and much mirrored brilliance throughout. From the Sigma Collection." This type was struck 1881-94 and is common. Half kopeks were also struck for Nicholas II in 1894 (KM Y48.1).
