This specimen was lot 42628 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 1/2 Kopek, 1896-CNB. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas II. PCGS SPECIMEN-64 Red Brown. Tied with just one other as the only examples with the specimen designation for the date, this RARE offering presents a wondrously executed strike along with great flair and brilliance." This type was struck 1894-1900, 1908-14 in moderate numbers. The SCWC does not award this date a premium.

Recorded mintage: 1,340,000.
