This specimen was lot 74554 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $1,980. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 50 Kopeks, 1897. Paris Mint; mm: star. Nicholas II. PCGS Genuine--Altered Surfaces, Unc Details. Despite its details designation, this Paris mint product offers a delightful two-toned nature with great contrast and no real evidence of actual handling. From the Sigma Collection." This type was struck at St. Petersburg 1895-1914 and at Paris 1896-99. This example realized over fifteen times the catalog value.
