This specimen was lot 4348 in Stack's-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,382.90. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 25 Kopek, 1872-CNBHI. NGC MS-63." This type is listed for 1859-85 and was emitted in modest quantities. This date is scarce despite the modest catalog value. This specimen realized nearly seven times the catalog value. The twenty-five kopeks superseded the polupoltinnik (quarter ruble) last coined in 1810.
