Sincona sale 19, lot 813

This specimen was lot 813 in Sincona sale 19 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 24,000 (about US$30,077 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "25 Kopecks 1869, St. Petersburg Mint, HI. Extremely rare as a proof! 10 roubles acc. to Iljin. 3 roubles according to Petrov. 10 roubles acc. to Trapeznikov. Cabinet piece. Old ink rarity mark. Choice brilliant proof with most attractive patina. Collector’s note: 'RR. Only 20 000 pcs struck'." This type is listed for 1859-85 and was emitted in modest quantities. This date is scarce. The twenty-five kopeks superseded the polupoltinnik (quarter ruble) last coined in 1810.
