Sincona sale 99, lot 274

This specimen was lot 274 in Sincona Auction 99 (Zürich, October 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSLAND Kaiserreich und Föderation, Alexander II. 1855-1881, Poltina 1869, St. Petersburg Mint, NI. Selten. Nur 20'003 Exemplare geprägt. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Randschlag auf Revers. (empire of Russia, Alexander II, 1855-81, poltina of 1869, St. Petersburg mint. Rare. Only 20,003 specimens struck. 3 roubles according to Petrov. 4 roubles according to Ilyin, Very Fine-Extremely Fine, Edge nick on reverse.)"

Altho struck in much smaller numbers than the contemporary ruble, this type struck 1859-85 has a lower catalog value. In 1886 the poltina was superseded by a fifty kopek piece weighing 10 g, 0.900 fine.

Recorded mintage: 20,003, a very scarce date.

Specification: 10.36 g, 0.868 fine silver, 28.5 mm diameter, this specimen 10.32 g.
