Russia 1867-SP HI 25 kopeks
This specimen was lot 31772 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $2,160. The catalog description[1] noted, "Alexander II 25 Kopecks 1867 CПБ-HI MS65 PL NGC, St. Petersburg mint. Obv. Crowned double-headed eagle with orb and scepter. Rev. Crowned date and value within wreath. Fully prooflike fields, with a bold strike and minor marks. Very rare in this gem condition. Ex. Sincona sale 48, October 22, 2018, Lot #600, where it realized a hammer price of $3010." This type is listed for 1859-85 and was emitted in modest quantities. This date is scarce. The twenty-five kopeks superseded the polupoltinnik (quarter ruble) last coined in 1810. Mintmaster HI is listed for 1866-77.
