Russia 1865-SP HF 25 kopeks
This specimen was lot 30493 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Alexander II 25 Kopecks 1865 CПБ-HФ MS63 NGC, St. Petersburg mint. Obv. Crowned doubled-headed Imperial eagle in circle. Rev. Crowned date and value in wreath. Variegated toning, with light gray on the obverse and gray and gold on the reverse. The strikes is bold and minor contact marks are noted on both sides. A very small mintage of only 16,019 pieces. Rare in Mint State." This type is listed for 1859-85 and was emitted in modest quantities. This date is scarce. The twenty-five kopeks superseded the polupoltinnik (quarter ruble) last coined in 1810.
