This specimen was lot 74525 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $750. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Poltina (1/2 Ruble), 1846-CNB NA. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas I. NGC MS-61. A sharply struck and captivating minor issue, this Mint State exemplar glistens with luster and exudes a tremendous degree of original brilliance--facets that undoubtedly elevate its already strong appeal. From the Sigma Collection." This type was struck 1832-58 in substantial quantities and most dates are common in circulated condition. A few were struck in Warsaw 1842-54.
