Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75420

This specimen was lot 75420 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 1/2 Kopek, 1814-NM NC. Alexander I. NGC MS-61 Brown. A lustrous bronze with generous icy blue toning. Although there are some areas of slight weakness, the color, luster, and Mint State preservation are incredibly compelling." The mintmark, "ИМ", was used by the Izhora Mint, now Kolpino, Russia. The mintmaster's initials "ПС" were for Pavel Stupitsyn. This mint struck this type 1810-14.

Recorded mintage: 2,259,000 (per Numista), 3,740,000 (per the SCWC).

Specification: 3.41 g, copper, 18 mm diameter.
