Russia 1814-SP PS 5 kopeks
This specimen was lot 74509 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 5 Kopeks, 1814/3-CNB NC. St. Petersburg Mint. Alexander I. NGC MS-63. An undoubtedly RARE and unlisted overdate variety. This silver minor presents ample original detail on its frosty surfaces, including the 4/3 overdate. A rather attractive piece that is worthy of attention." This type is listed for 1810-26 and has a low catalog value in circulated condition. This date is common. The regime vacillated between silver and copper five kopeks but only silver was struck 1810-31.
