Russia 1799-CM FC ruble Dav-1688
This specimen was lot 75395 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $129. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1799-CM OU. Uncertain (Banking) Mint in St. Petersburg. Paul I. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, VG Details." The SCWC records this product of the St. Petersburg mint (СПБ) for 1796-1801, with three mintmasters recorded for 1799. The type is not rare in circulated condition. The 1801 is recorded in Davenport as Dav-278 but is the same type. It is lighter than the ruble of Catherine II (Dav-1686) but higher in purity, resulting in the same amount of silver.
