Sincona sale 99, lot 56

This specimen was lot 56 in Sincona Auction 99 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$678 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSLAND Kaiserreich und Föderation, Rouble 1754, Red Mint, MMD MB. Sehr schön. (empire of Russia, ruble of 1754, Red mint. 3 roubles according to Petrov, Very Fine.)"

This type, issued 1754-57 from St. Petersburg and 1751-58 from Moscow, varied from the prior type by the addition of the assayer's initials. The rubles of Peter II were about 28 grams but this type seems to be only 26 grams.

Recorded mintage: 1,183,000 (all assayers).

Specification: 25.85 g, 0.802 fine silver, edge lettered МОСКОВСКОГО *** МАНЕТНОГО*ДВОРА ***, this specimen 25.62 g.
