Sincona sale 78, lot 236

This specimen was lot 236 in Sincona sale 78 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$420 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Elizabeth, 1741-1761, Poltina 1754, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB IM. 5 roubles according to Petrov. 4 roubles according to Ilyin. Very fine. Cleaned." This type was struck 1751-61. It is not rare but expensive in nice condition. Assayers Ivan Markov or Yakov Ivanov both issued poltinas in 1754.

Recorded mintage: 154,000 (both mintmasters).

Specification: 12.93 g, 0.802 fine silver, this specimen is 13.33 g.
