Reuss-Schleiz 1858-A thaler Dav-802
This specimen was lot 948 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $540. The catalog description[1] noted, "REUSS-SCHLEIZ: Heinrich LXVII, 1854-1867, AR thaler, 1858, lovely semi prooflike strike with hairlines in the fields, Unc, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." Reuss was one of the splinter states of Saxon Thuringia and itself underwent several divisions. Many rulers were named Heinrich and several lines consolidated their numbering, resulting in this prince becoming Heinrich the sixty-seventh. Reuss-Schleiz was the only line to survive into the unified empire. This type is fairly common and was also struck in 1862.
Recorded mintage: 10,000.
Specifications: 18.52 g, 0.900 fine silver, 33 mm diameter, lettered edge.
