This specimen was lot 10336 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $1,116. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Reuss-Schleiz. Taler, 1862. NGC MS-63. Mintage of 10,000 pieces. Toned." Reuss was one of the splinter states of Saxon Thuringia and itself underwent several divisions. Many rulers were named Heinrich and several lines consolidated their numbering, resulting in this prince becoming Heinrich the sixty-eighth. Reuss-Schleiz was the only line to survive into the unified empire. This type is fairly common and was also struck in 1858.
