Künker Auction 425, lot 2311

This specimen was lot 2311 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,558 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · REUSS-SCHLEIZ, GRAFSCHAFT, SEIT 1806 FÜRSTENTUM Heinrich LXII., 1818-1854. Vereinsdoppeltaler 1853. Nur 2.700 Exemplare geprägt. Hübsche Patina, kl. Kratzer auf der Vorderseite, fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 394, Osnabrück 2023, Nr. 5083. (Germany, principality of Reuss-Schleiz, Henry LXII, 1818-34. union double thaler of 1853. Handsome patina, light scratch on the obverse, about extremely fine.)"

" Reuss was one of the splinter states of Saxon Thuringia and itself underwent several divisions. Many rulers were named Heinrich and several lines consolidated their numbering, resulting in this prince becoming Heinrich the sixty-second. This type was struck 1840, 1844, 1846, 1853-54 at Berlin and is very scarce.

Recorded mintage: 2,700.
