Künker sale 353, lot 4016

This specimen was lot 4016 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €30 (about US$42 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Ku.-2 Pfennig 1816, A. Prägung für die mittleren Provinzen. Sehr schön. Erworben im März 1970. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, copper two pfennig of 1816, struck for the middle provinces. Very fine.)"

This type was struck 1810, 1814 and 1816. It is the first issue of this denomination since 1706. The two pfenning would become more important after the reform of 1821.
