Prussia 1816-A 1/6 thaler
This specimen was lot 393 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €90 (about US$121 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. 1/6 Taler 1816, A. Leicht justiert, Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, one-sixth thaler of 1816, light adjustment marks, uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1809-18 at Berlin (A), Breslau (B) and Düsseldorf (D) and is common. The one-sixth thaler was one of many minor denominations struck alongside the better known thalers and gold coins. Its face value was equal to four mariengroschen. It was issued steadily 1809-68, when the unification of 1871 rendered it obsolete.
