The first specimen was lot 666 in Ponterio sale 182 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $493.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. Taler, 1816-A. PCGS MS-62 Secure Holder. Toned." The second specimen was lot 3984 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,183 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Taler 1816, A. Variante mit Punkt nach PREUSSEN und MARK. Feine Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, thaler of 1816, variety with dot after PREUSSEN and MARK. Fine patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was issued 1809-16 at Berlin (shown here) and Düsseldorf and is common in worn condition. This is a common date.

Recorded mintage: 6,160,615.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver, .537 troy oz ASW; the second specimen is 22,12 g.
