Prussia 1816-B thaler Dav-756
This specimen was lot 3998 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €100 (about US$139 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Taler 1816, B. Sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Galerie des Monnaies 25, Düsseldorf 1981, Nr. 509. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, thaler of 1816. Very fine.)"
During the disasters of the Napoleonic Wars, the Breslau mint was occupied by the French 1808-13, during which time it struck no coinage. It reopened with the coming of peace and struck this thaler 1815-16 before closing again.
Recorded mintage: 554,000 for 1815-16, a scarce date.
