Prussia 1792-E 1/3 thaler
This specimen was part of lot 3910 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), which sold for €550 (about US$766 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1786-1797. 1/3 Reichstaler preuß. 1789 E, 1790 E, 1791 E, 1792 E, 1797 E, alle Münzstätte Königsberg. J. 22 (5x); Olding 11 (5x). 5 Stück., Sehr schön-vorzüglich und vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William II, 1786-97, one third thaler of 1792, Königsberg mint. [One of] five pieces, very fine to extremely fine.)"
The 1/12 thaler was retired in 1772 and the 1/6 thaler was retired in 1778 but this denomination carried on to the end of the century. One third thaler was half a gulden. This type was struck 1786-98 at Berlin, Breslau and Konigsberg.
Recorded mintage: 529,031, a scarce date.
